A seismic isolation structure is a structural technology that installs seismic isolation devices, such as laminated rubber bearings and dampers, between the building and its foundation to make it harder for earthquake energy to be transmitted to the building. While conventional earthquake-resistant structures are designed to “withstand shaking,” seismic isolation protects the building and its residents by “preventing shaking from being transmitted.”
